The neighborhoods have not finished burning in the Yvelines. After two first nights of violence, marked in particular by the fire of an annex town hall in Mantes-la-Jolie and two schools in La Verrière, the inhabitants still wake up with unpleasant surprises this Friday.

The night was restless for some, mortar fire and fires having been observed in Sartrouville, Poissy, Carrières-sous-Poissy, the towns of Mantois, those of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines or even Conflans-Sainte-Honorine . Several public buildings were targeted, mainly municipal police stations but also the Source school in Versailles, the Curie kindergarten in Vaux-sur-Seine and even a crèche in Vélizy.

A total of 31 individuals were arrested, most of them under 20 years old. The youngest of them, arrested for willful damage in Sartrouville, is only 14 years old. It was also young teenagers who attacked an Action store in Montigny-le-Bretonneux during the night to empty and ransack the shelves.

“I am angry with all these parents who saw their child dressed in black going out at 3 am. The parents, too, are responsible, ”laments Lorrain Merckaert, mayor (DVD) of Montigny. In his city, two town hall minibuses were also set on fire. “These vehicles were to take these children on vacation this summer, starting next week. For now, I don’t have a solution. »

The mayor of Sartrouville “dismayed”

In Sartrouville, significant damage was noted this Friday. The Paul-Bert school suffered in particular from the start of a fire which was quickly brought under control and did not prevent the reception of pupils in the morning. The city indicates numerous attempts at burning and looting “could be repelled” thanks to the action of the police and its municipal police.

Mayor (LR) Pierre Fond says he is “dismayed to discover the extent of the damage suffered by all the cities affected by the riots of the last few days”. The elected official, who affirms his support for traders and victims of acts of vandalism, believes that it is necessary “to stand firm against people who attack France and the French”.

Several events planned for this weekend in the city have been canceled in order to “focus all resources on the protection of people and property”.

Smaller towns are not spared

Also painful awakening this morning in Poissy, where like the day before, violence broke out late at night with the main consequence being the fire of the Claude-Vanpoulle social space. The mayor (DVD) Sandrine Dos Santos, who went there in the morning, speaks of a “bruised” city and believes that this act towards this structure dedicated to families in the Saint-Exupéry district is “symbolic of the absurdity of the situation. “The first victims are the inhabitants of the district deprived of service”, deplores the elected official.

In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, several acts of vandalism were committed in the Bel-Air district. We deplore broken bus shelters, shattered store windows, as well as that of the Sup de Vente business school. In Mantes-la-Jolie, a Société Générale bank was also targeted, money could have been stolen.

Many smaller municipalities also experienced a difficult night. This is the case in Villepreux where the shops in the Pointe-à-l’Ange district were vandalized. In this context, Mayor Jean-Baptiste Hamonic (MoDem) has decided to cancel the festivities planned after midnight in town such as the Electro evening, considering that “the security conditions are not met”. The summer party, on the other hand, is maintained for the moment.

They take advantage of the riots to steal 11 Dodge Rams

In Coignières, urban violence seems to have made the business of experienced thieves. A team broke into the car dealership selling Dodge, an American brand known for its quirky models. A dozen RAM pick-ups, a model sold between 58,000 and 120,000 euros (excluding VAT), were stolen. The damage could reach 1 million euros.

“It’s not kids who did that, it has nothing to do with the riots,” said the dealership, which opened only five months ago. According to him, the establishment was already “observed” by thieves.

In Buchelay, the police notably managed to arrest 14 people who were trying to commit a burglary.

Faced with the extent of public degradation – like the 100,000 euros in road damage in Trappes – Yvelines departmental council announced on Friday an aid plan for communities affected by the riots. The contours are not yet defined but the launch is planned for the start of the school year.
