Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the leader of La France insoumise had already called on Twitter to “completely overhaul the police” and that the “murderers” of the teenager be “punished”. “Republican police officers must no longer allow themselves to be dishonored by this type of colleague. And excusing commentators encourage the worst,” he added.
After a minute’s silence was observed in the National Assembly, around twenty deputies from the Nupes, Insoumis, environmentalists and socialists gathered in the gardens of the Palais-Bourbon carrying a sign calling for “Justice and truth” for the young man. Town halls and schools burned
This political battle adds to a context of urban violence. Last night, public buildings (town halls, police stations, schools) were burned in Île-de-France but also in Toulouse, Lille or Clermont-Ferrand, as well as dozens of cars and street furniture. In Villeurbanne (Rhône), four people were injured and around thirty were relocated after the fire in their building.
