Death of Walter Cunningham, the first American astronaut

The man’s landing on the moon is considered the greatest achievement of mankind till date. The American space agency NASA achieved this through the Apollo mission. As the first attempt, NASA conducted many experiments to send man to the moon.

Accordingly, on October 11, 1968, NASA successfully sent humans into space for the first time in the Apollo 7 spacecraft. Dan F Eisel, Walter M. 3 astronauts Shira and Walter Cunningham orbited space for 11 days in the Apollo 7 spacecraft. They also televised their space flight live. Then on October 22, they returned safely to Earth in the same spacecraft. They became the first American astronauts to return to space.

Apollo 7 astronauts Don F. Eichel, Walter M. Both Shira and Shira were already dead, leaving only Walter Cunningham alive.

He died yesterday due to ill health. He was 90. A former U.S. Navy and Special Forces pilot, Cunningham flew 54 missions as a fighter pilot before retiring. After that in 1963 he was selected as a NASA astronaut.
