Death on set: Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a lawsuit against four employees on the production of the movie “Rust,” in which he accidentally killed cameraman Alina Hutchins with a gun during filming. Media in the United States published today (Saturday) that the lawsuit was filed by Baldwin against the chief assistant director, the props manager, the props supplier and the person responsible for the weapons in the production.
“This tragedy occurred on a movie set, not on a battlefield or other place where a gun might be loaded with live bullets,” Baldwin’s lawsuit states. It also states that following the incident, Baldwin was fired from several films and was not cast in other films.
About a week ago it was announced that the actor reached a plea agreement with Hutchins’ family. As part of the arrangement, Matthew Hutchins, the photographer’s husband, will serve as an executive producer on the film, whose filming will resume this January. In addition, it was agreed that the civil suit against Baldwin and other factors in the production would be dismissed, and that the settlement would have no effect on the possibility of criminal charges.
Last August, it was reported on the American ABC network that the FBI’s investigation shows that it is impossible that the bullet was accidentally fired and that Baldwin necessarily pulled the trigger. This is contrary to his claim that he did not pull the trigger, and did not even know that he had live ammunition.
In an interview that Baldwin gave last December on the same network, for the first time since the incident, the actor said that he does not feel guilty and that “someone is responsible for what happened, but I can’t say who. I know it’s not me. I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible.” . The photographer, 42-year-old Alina Hutchins, was the film’s principal photographer. She died of her injuries after being transferred to a hospital in the city of Albuquerque in Medina.
