Dhaka: Six members of the Razakar Bahini, a paramilitary group linked to the Pakistan Army, have been sentenced to death by the International Criminal Tribunal for Bangladesh. He was sentenced to death for his involvement in the 1971 War of Liberation of East Pakistan along with the Pakistan Army in a war against humanity. The verdict was announced by a bench headed by Justice Muhammad Shaheenul Islam.

The accused are Amjad Hussain Howladar, Sahar Ali Sardar, Atyar Rehman, Motachim Billa, Kamaluddin Goldar and Nasrul Islam. Nazrul Islam is absconding. The tribunal said the accused were involved in the crimes of mass murder, extortion and flagrant torture.

The tribunal was set up by Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2010 to investigate war crimes committed by the Pakistan Army and their local auxiliaries during the 1971 Liberation War.
