In this regard, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that the jewelery loans outstanding in the co-operative societies will be waived subject to certain conditions. Accordingly, out of 84 co-operative societies in Mayiladuthurai district, 20,197 loans are eligible and Rs. 58.36 crore is being written off. The audited lists have been sent to the concerned co-operative societies and work is underway to issue loan waiver certificates and jewelery to the eligible creditors as per the government notification.
