Jancer Romario Bolaños Casierra is involved in a new identity theft scandal in Ecuadorian football. Previously known as Alexander Bolaños, the player was suspended for three years by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF).

According to a report from the FEF Disciplinary Commission, to which Ecuavisa had access, Adis Solís Rodríguez, who worked in the Civil Registry, allegedly facilitated the falsification of documents for Bolaños.

Solís, who died on November 18, 2023 due to an illness, at the beginning of last year became the first female mayor of the canton of San Lorenzo, Esmeraldas, with the support of the Citizen Revolution Movement (RC5), would have been key in the alleged forgery.

This story is believed to have begun when Bolaños, at the age of 17, was approached by Julio Enrique Chiriboga, who allegedly proposed that he change his identity so that he could play in the lower categories. Bolaños and his mother accepted the offer, according to testimony gathered by investigators from the aforementioned FEF commission.

Adis Solís, mentioned by Bolaños, allegedly issued the modified ID in 2015, while working at the Civil Registry of Esmeraldas.

According to the investigation, Bolaños had five different ID cards issued on different dates, between 2012 and 2022. Bolaños’ first registration in national and international clubs dates back to 2015, thanks to the intervention of Solís, who died in November of last year and was unable to defend himself when the case came to light in April 2024.

The former mayor, who served in public office between 2009 and 2023, was accused by former assemblyman Fernando Villavicencio of leading a corruption network in the Civil Registry that, for example, allegedly issued false ID cards to soccer players and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Jancer Romario Bolaños, born on May 23, 1994 in Limones, Esmeraldas, used the false identity of Alexander David Bolaños Casierra, his brother’s name, to register with the Ecuadorian Football Federation and sign professional contracts. During his career, he played for clubs such as Barcelona SC, Técnico Universitario, IDV and Colo Colo of Chile, and was even part of the Ecuadorian under-20 team that won the South American Championship in 2019.
