December 11, 2023: The Central region rings in unity around the fight against terrorism

Ouagadougou, Dec. 11 2023 (AIB)-Like other regions of Burkina, the Central region celebrated, on December 11, Independence Day, at the Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou through a taking of arms and a decoration ceremony of 101 workers who distinguished themselves by their self-sacrifice in serving the country.

The 63rd anniversary of Burkina’s independence comes in a context marked by the security crisis and the fight against terrorism.

Everything that has imposed on the populations, a celebration at a minimum and the theme of this year is: “Patriotic commitment and citizen participation: fundamental for the return of peace and the construction of the Burkinabè Nation-State”.

On the morning of Monday, December 11, 2023, the authorities of the Central region endorsed the celebration of independence through a series of decorations in various national orders at the Place de la Nation.

In total, 101 people saw their years of work rewarded. These include, among others, the medals of Commanders of the Order of the Stallion, Officers of the Order of Merit and the Order of the Stallion, Knights, medals of honor from communities local.

For the governor of the Center region, Abdoulaye Bassinga, the anniversary of independence requires Burkinabè to take a retrospective look at the past to celebrate the present and consider the future.

“On this occasion, we are called to remember the heroes and heroines who fought with determination to free our nation from oppression. They knew how to rise above ideological differences to place high the best interests of the nation (…), we must be inspired by them to show ourselves worthy of this heritage by defending our territorial integrity and national unity. he said.

In a context of fight against the forces of evil, the governor paid vibrant tribute to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP).

Also to the Head of State and his government who, despite a less favorable socio-economic context, have been able to trace the paths of a new, free and sovereign Burkina.

Thus, Mr. Bassinga invited all the Burkinabè people to place their trust in the Transition and to work for the construction of “a nation of solidarity, peace, security and stability”.

“Despite security difficulties, major projects are underway and the lines are moving favorably in the dynamics of sustainable endogenous development for the happiness of the populations,” indicated the governor.

The recipients expressed their satisfaction and expressed wishes for cohesion, national unity and living together.

In the category of Commanders of the Order of the Stallion, Professor Laurent Bado was distinguished. He expressed his pride “at finally being recognized by the Burkinabè authorities as a deserving worker”.

“Apart from the President of the Transition, Michel Kafando who in his time was determined to award me an honorary distinction, I have never been decorated during all these years of service. So, today, I am proud to know that my commitment is recognized by my country. I am not chasing recognition, I am just expressing a real fact,” lamented the man of law.

Burkinabè honorary distinctions are grouped into three main categories, namely “National Orders”, “Specific Orders” and medals.

In the National Order, we distinguish the Order of the Stallion and the Burkinabè Order of Merit. The Order of the Stallion is the highest honorary distinction in Burkina.

It rewards personal merit and eminent civil or military services rendered to the Nation.
