Saint Theophano the miraculous wife of King Leo the Bishop
According to the synaxarist, Saint Theophano was a pious queen, who received great praise from the chroniclers of that time, for her evangelical life, her charities and her great piety.
She was the daughter of Constantine de Martinakis, Illustrio and Anna. He was born in Istanbul and raised with dedication.
At an appropriate age, King Basilios of Macedonia gave her as wife to his son Leo the Bishop (886 – 912 AD), with whom she lived devotedly for 12 years and was immediately recognized by her contemporaries as a saint and a miracle worker for the community. he did many labors of love.
Despite all the greatness and wealth that surrounded her, she retained the humility and modesty that characterized her before. She preferred to dress simply and be around people who needed her. That is why she dressed simply so as not to be recognized and accompanied by two of her trusted wives, she went to the homes of the poor and the poor and offered help. Her faith was so great that she was required to perform miracles. When medical science abandoned a patient because it could not cure him, the Saint brought him back to health with the power of his soul. Despite all the bitterness she received in her life, Saint Theophano praised the Lord with a flame that could not be extinguished.
When she died, her husband built a beautiful church, near the church of the Holy Apostles, where her holy remains were deposited. Patriarch Gennadios the Scholar transferred this to the church of the Holy Apostles and from there it was transferred to the Patriarchate, where it is preserved to this day.
