The government has decided to form ‘Maheshkhali-Qutubdia Integrated Development Authority’ by changing the name to carry out development activities at the deep sea port at Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar. For this purpose, the Cabinet has given final approval to the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority Act.

This approval was given in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (July 29). At the same time, the proposal to ratify the agreement titled ‘Agreement for Cooperation in the Legal Field’ signed between Bangladesh and Qatar was approved.

After the meeting, the secretary of the cabinet department in the briefing held at the secretariat. Mahbub Hossain said that the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority Act was approved in principle on April 17. The authority was created to coordinate the development going on in Maheshkhali.

After in-principle approval, it was presented for final approval today, he said. Final approval today. However, there are slight changes. Earlier the name was ‘Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority’. Now proposed ‘Maheshkhali-Qutubdia Integrated Development Authority’. The word Qutubdia will be added. Because, the land area with which this authority will be, there is the land of Qutubdia.

Earlier, at the end of the cabinet committee meeting held on April 17, the cabinet secretary said that Maheshkhali Matarbari integrated development activities have been taken. During the visit of the Prime Minister of Japan to Bangladesh in 2014, the Prime Ministers of the two countries made a joint announcement. Under that announcement, the development program was inaugurated in Matabari.
