SSG Landers manager Lee Soong-yong, who is engaged in a fierce battle for the top 5, declared an all-out war and hoped for the starting pitchers to do their best.

Ahead of the 2024 Shinhan Solbank KBO League match against LG Twins to be held at Jamsil Stadium on the 20th, the manager emphasized the presence of starting pitchers, saying, “I am once again thinking that it is important for starting pitchers to fill innings.”

SSG currently has a starting rotation consisting of Drew Anderson, Roenis Elias, Kwang-Hyun Kim, Young-Jin Song, and Won-Seok Oh.

However, unlike foreign pitchers Anderson and Elias, domestic pitchers are not providing stability. Even the homegrown ace Kim Kwang-hyun is continuing his slump, with only 2 wins, 5 losses, and an ERA of 6.23 in the last 10 games.

“If Anderson and Elias come out, the calculations will be made to some extent. Song Young-jin and Kim Kwang-hyun are going through a very difficult path right now. Oh Won-seok is the same,” said the manager, adding, “The starting pitchers need to have a sense of responsibility and do their part. It’s not that they aren’t working hard, but now they need to find a way and prove it.”

SSG, which suffered a 3-game sweep against Hanwha Eagles last weekend, is currently in 5th place (56 wins, 1 draw, 58 losses) before today’s game.

The gap with 4th place Doosan Bears (61 wins, 2 draws, 56 losses) is 3.5 games, while 6th place KT Wiz (55 wins, 2 draws, 59 losses) is 1 game behind. The gap with 7th place Hanwha Eagles (52 wins, 2 draws, 59 losses) and 8th place Lotte Giants (50 wins, 3 draws, 57 losses) is only 2.5 games.

In order to secure a ticket to the fall baseball league, the results of the remaining games have become more important.

The manager declared that he would give his all in every game, saying, “There will be no games left to give up from now on.”

“When the 3rd to 5th starters come out, we have to prepare for the bullpen pitcher to come out in the 4th or 5th inning. We have to mobilize all (our resources) somehow and give it our all in every game,” he said. “We have to pour everything we have into the remaining 29 games without regrets and with as few regrets as possible.”
