Colombo: President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka due to the severe economic crisis.

Since the independence of neighboring Sri Lanka from the British in 1948, the country has experienced an unprecedented economic crisis. Unprecedented power outages are taking a toll.

Due to this a chaotic situation prevails in the country. The impatient people staged a sit-in protest in front of the house of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Following this, President Rajapaksa declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka last night. Through this, strict laws were enacted to arrest suspects and give the military broad powers.
