President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka

With prices soaring in Sri Lanka, there is a shortage of essential commodities. Food items such as milk powder, petrol, diesel and cooking gas are not available. A 13-hour power cut has also been announced. The people, outraged by the continuing casualties, have been fighting for the Rajapaksa brothers to leave the government.

Violent incidents, including the burning of military vehicles, also took place. Coalition parties with the opposition also raised the battle flag against the Gotabhaya government. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka to bring the situation under control. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that the state of emergency has to be declared for reasons including public safety, maintaining peace in the country and providing essential items to the public.

The announcement will take effect on April 1, according to a press release issued on behalf of the Chancellor. The military has been given full authority to bring peace to the country by declaring a state of emergency. This has led to the repression of the people involved in the struggle with an iron fist.

This is the second time in the last three years that a state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka. More than 200 people were killed in an Easter bomb blast at a church in Colombo on April 21, 2019. The then President Maithripala Sirisena declared a state of emergency following the extraordinary situation that arose across the country.
