The President of Nuwara Eliya Special Economic Center, Aruna Shantha Hettiarachi said that the price of vegetables has decreased by 40 to 54 percent within the last five days in the country.
He said this during a press conference held at the Nuwara Eliya Special Economic Center yesterday (21).
He further pointed out that due to the decrease in the price of fish in the market, people are not eating vegetables and hence the price of vegetables has decreased.

It is not acceptable to say that prices are inflated due to high prices of vegetables like carrot found in the fields of farmers working in Nuwara Eliya Economic Centre.
The price was fixed according to an organization operating at the economic center, and no mafia was involved.
At the same time, if the government works to bring vegetables from abroad, first the farmers economic center officials, industrialists and we will take to the streets together.
A request to the Minister
We request the minister to take a proper task from the agriculture department officials and set targets for them and check whether they are fulfilling those targets through district officers and make agriculture grow.
Meanwhile, training of Nuwara Eliya farmers in foreign technology is essential.
It is noteworthy that the chairman Aruna Shantha Hettiarachi has said that through this the agricultural economy can be developed competitively.
