The character of Dies Moros, also known as Morosco or Dees, is a snow monster from ancient Slavic belief. Following the Russian Revolution, Dies Moros became the character who brings gifts during the New Year instead of Santa Claus, as Christmas traditions were discouraged in the Soviet Union.
