West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has issued a formal apology following a tragic incident at a free wedding reception for Maula Akbar and Deputy Regent of Garut Putri Karlina, where a chaotic crowd led to the deaths of three people.

“First, I convey that I am grieving. May the deceased and the departed accept their Islamic faith, have all their sins forgiven, and be placed in a noble place in the sight of Allah,” Mulyadi stated in a message.

Mulyadi asserted he was unaware of the free meal aspect of the event, only knowing that an art performance for the community was scheduled for Friday night. He expressed deep regret for the turn of events.

What caused the tragedy? A massive turnout at a free meal event led to chaos, resulting in the deaths of three attendees.

The governor committed to taking responsibility for the incident. He revealed that his staff had been instructed to immediately meet with the families of the victims and provide compensation of 150 million Indonesian Rupiah per family.

“The Maula and Putri Thanksgiving event, personally, I was not aware of its nature. I understood there was an art performance scheduled, and I was going to meet residents. I did not know there was a thanksgiving event for residents where they were invited to eat together,” Mulyadi explained.

He reiterated his profound apologies for the outcome.
