Kollam | The suspect, who threatened to stab a policeman in the neck while trying to apprehend him, was accidentally shot by a police officer. The incident took place at Pathanapuram, Kollam. Mukesh, accused in more than 25 cases, was nabbed by the police at Maniyar Charuvilaveettil in Punalur. Four policemen, including an SI, were injured in the incident.
Mukesh was arrested in connection with a robbery at a temple in Punnala yesterday. Mukesh came to know that his wife was at his house in Punnala. He turned his shotgun on himself when apprehended by a police officer on the porch of the house where the shootings took place. With this he took the SI revolver in his hand. The shooting occurred when the accused tried to snatch it. The bullet pierced Mukesh’s face. He was later subdued by the police with the help of locals.
SI Arun Kumar constables Vishnu, Sabu Lucas and Vineeth were injured in the attack. They and the accused were admitted to Punalur Taluk Hospital.
