Defense Minister Galant Calls for Postponement of Vote on Reasonableness Cancellation

Defense Minister Galant, who has remained silent during the current round, is now urging for the postponement of the vote in the Knesset regarding the cancellation of the reasonableness clause. This information was first reported by “Olan Shishi” this evening (Friday).

“The situation is very worrying, and the legislation should be postponed,” Galant stated in response to the announcement made by hundreds of pilots and staff members in the Air Force who are ending their service. Later, Galant emphasized in a statement released by his office, “He is working in all ways to bring about a broad agreement and prevent harm to security.”

In recent days, Galant has held continuous conversations with Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Air Force Commander Bar, which has revealed a concerning picture regarding the army’s situation. Over the past day, Galant has been collaborating with leaders of the coalition and even with the heads of opposition parties in an effort to extend the summer conference by a few days. This extension would permit the vote on the cancellation of the reasonableness clause to be postponed, providing more time for the parties to reach a comprehensive agreement on the law.

In response, the Defense Minister’s office stated, “He is working in all ways in order to bring about a broad consensus, prevent damage to Israel’s security, and keep the IDF out of the political controversy.”

During the conclusion of the winter conference, Galant declared that the division within the army presented a “clear and immediate danger to the security of the state.” Since then, there has been escalation in Gaza, fighting in Jenin, and activity against Hezbollah. Galant perceives the current situation to be similar, but this time he has chosen a different political approach with the same ultimate goal. Galant is determined to halt the legislation and reach a compromise; however, he has not yet revealed how he intends to vote.

The Defense Minister’s call for the postponement of the vote highlights the growing concerns regarding the army’s stability and the need for a unified approach to address these challenges. With ongoing discussions and negotiations taking place amongst various political leaders, the hope is that a broader agreement can be reached to ensure the security of the country.
