The space forces of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) detected more than 170 missile launches in 2021 in the area of responsibility of the Russian missile attack warning system (EWS), the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“In 2021, over 170 launches of foreign and domestic ballistic missiles and space missiles were detected by the alert means of the Russian missile attack warning system, specialized means of space control and anti-missile defense systems,” the message says.
The basis of the Echelon Echelon are radar stations of the new generation of the Voronezh type. The stations are deployed on the territory of the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Orenburg regions, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk and Altai territories. In addition, the construction of the Voronezh radar station in the Komi Republic is nearing completion, new ones are being created in the Murmansk region, the Defense Ministry notes.
State tests of the Russian missile attack warning system ended at the end of December 2020, said Sergei Boev, the general designer of the early warning system. The main information means of the early warning system include specialized artificial earth satellites, as well as a network of high-availability radar stations Voronezh, Voronezh-DM and Daryal. The latter are capable of detecting ballistic missiles in flight at ranges of up to 6,000 km.
