Sivakasi: All over Tamil Nadu, people are suffering because they have not been able to build new houses and factories as property tax has not been collected for 5 months. There are 21 Municipal Corporations and 138 Municipalities in Tamil Nadu. Newly in charge DMK raised the property tax in the government corporation and municipalities. As the new property tax hike has not come into effect, property tax has not been collected in the Corporations and Municipalities for 5 months.

In order to determine the new property tax, self-application form was issued to the general public in the Corporation and Municipalities. This includes questions about location details, current taxes, area, size, year of construction, type of roof, usage, etc. The respective owners have to fill in the correct information and give it to the corporation and municipality office. After verifying this, tax hike will be determined based on it. Employees in all the corporations and municipalities are engaged in checking the measurements in houses and factories according to the completed form. In this situation, no corporation or municipality has collected property tax for this work for 5 months.

As a result, the builders of new houses and factories could not start any construction work as they could not get electricity connection. Therefore, the Municipal Administration Commission should take measures to quickly complete the measurement work in the Corporation and Municipalities and determine and collect the property tax.
