Kanchipuram: In Kanchipuram district, there has been delay in the availability of school infrastructure development funds, which has hampered the construction work. Out of total 226 jobs, 86 jobs are pending.
Kanchipuram, Walajabad, Kunraduthar, Sriperumbudur, Uttaramerur, there are various schools like Panchayat Union Primary School, Middle School, Government Funded School, Adi Dravidar Welfare School and so on.
Development work
In government funded schools and Adi Dravidian welfare schools, the respective school administrations provide necessary infrastructure facilities.
To complete basic facilities in government schools, funds are obtained through the School Infrastructure Development Fund and development works are carried out through the respective local development administrations.
Accordingly, in the financial year 2021-22, 1.99 crores of rural development fund has been allocated as school infrastructure development fund to provide facilities such as additional building, toilet and drinking water in 226 schools and work is underway.
Funds are being released for these developmental works in two phases.
In the first phase of fund release, toilet and drinking water facilities have been completed. In this, it has been alleged that the construction work has not even started in many panchayats due to non-availability of funds for the construction of additional school buildings.
Specifically, for the renovation of 68 school buildings, only 40 schools have completed the work.

Similarly, out of 40 school kitchen buildings, work has been completed in only 25 schools. Also, for the construction of 116 additional school buildings, the work has been completed in only 73 schools.
Out of total 226 tasks, only 140 tasks have been completed. Remaining 86 works are not completed. In this, a complaint has been raised that more works are pending in Kanchipuram Union.
In this regard, a rural development official said:
1.99 Crores have been allocated for School Infrastructure Development Fund and work is in progress. In this, the first installment has been released.
For the second phase of work, the department has received funds from the government.
The work of dividing this according to the respective localities is going on. Soon all works will be 100 percent complete.
Apart from this, a survey has been made as to which schools need what facilities for the year 2022-23.
After that, the project estimate will be prepared and the works will be started in the next financial year after obtaining funds.
