Delays in the election results in Pakistan

More than half a day after the polls closed in Pakistan, only a few seats in the country’s national assembly have been distributed. The election has been marked by strong unrest.

The reason for the delays is said to be “problems with the internet”, states the country’s electoral commission, without elaborating further.

The country’s electoral authorities informed on Friday about the distribution of eight of the seats in the National Assembly.

Four of them go to the party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while one has gone to Pakistan’s People Party. The last three allocated places go to independent candidates.

The opinion polls suggest that 74-year-old Nawaz Sharif can get enough votes to form a government either alone or in coalition with others, according to the AFP news agency.
