The long-awaited live-action remake of «Bambi» will have to be less traumatic than the animated original, in which the mother of the little fawn dies. Lindsey Anderson Beer, who until recently was the screenwriter in charge of the new project, is convinced of this, but she had to leave due to overlapping new work commitments. The remake, however, is still in the works and she hopes that her guidelines will be respected. «The interesting thing about “Bambi” is that it is definitely a classic – explains Anderson Beer to “Collider” – and a beautiful love poem. However, I believe that there is an entire generation of children who have never seen the original, unlike for example “The Little Mermaid” or “Aladdin” and this is truly a shame, because “Bambi” is an absolutely wonderful film” .
According to the screenwriter, one of the problems linked to the poor diffusion of the original film among younger audiences is because it shows the death of a parent, which is always a delicate topic to deal with for both children and adults. «I am convinced that there is a way to modernize “Bambi” and our intention was to give it a broader scope, to make it a film suitable for today’s children, so that they can understand it more and this would certainly help even to the original version.” Now all we have to do is wait for the remake to understand if Anderson Beer’s directions were also followed by the new team of screenwriters.
