In the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg State Academic Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich was performed by outstanding Azerbaijani pianists – People’s Artist of the USSR Farhad Badalbeyli and People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Murad Adigezalzade.

Day.Az was informed about this by the chief conductor and musical director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, laureate of international competitions Eyyub Guliyev.

The pianists performed accompanied by the Academic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Eyyub Guliyev. The concert was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan.

The evening program included works by the largest Azerbaijani composers of the 20th century – symphonic engravings “Don Quixote” by Gar Garayev, a Piano Concerto on Arabic themes, written by Fikret Amirov in collaboration with Elmira Nazirova. In it, along with the use of authentic Arabic melodies, the development principles characteristic of Azerbaijani music are applied, and the sound of Arabic instruments is imitated by means of a symphony orchestra.

Also that evening, the famous Italian Capriccio by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and – for the first time in St. Petersburg – Suite No. 2 for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninov in the version for two pianos and orchestra by Alexander Warenberg were performed.

The concert program was a huge success. Farhad Badalbeyli and Murad Adigozalzade were repeatedly invited for an encore. Their masterly performance caused delight and a storm of applause.

As an encore, Farhad Badalbeyli performed his own composition “The Sea”.

After the concert, the audience did not leave for a long time, everyone tried to approach the Azerbaijani performers and the conductor to express their admiration, they said many kind words about the richness of the musical culture of Azerbaijan, the creative heritage of outstanding composers Gara Garayev and Fikret Amirov.

The event was attended by the world-famous choreographer, our compatriot, Honored Artist of Russia, artistic director of the ballet troupe of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theater Eldar Aliyev, and Consul General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg Sultan Gasimov.
