The express grocery delivery companies Gorillas and Getir will soon disappear from France after the Paris Commercial Court ordered their liquidation on Wednesday.

In fact, this decision leads to the loss of more than 1,300 jobs, mostly delivery people on permanent contracts. The company Frichti, which is also part of the Turkish group Getir and has more than 300 employees, has not yet been fixed on its fate at midday.

“An unfavorable contextual environment”

This is a new setback for the “quick trade” sector, hard hit by inflation and by a change in rules to combat the nuisances of its warehouses caused, among other things, by the comings and goings of scooters and delivery bikes. The government had decided to consider these “dark stores” no longer as businesses but as warehouses.

This paved the way for their regulation by the town halls, which sometimes decided to have them closed. “The dark stores are over,” claimed Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy to the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, criticizing “predatory capitalistic behavior” on the part of these companies.

Companies did not wait for the entry into force of the decree on July 1 to react. The groups Getir and Flink (a German group) announced in June their departure from French territory. The Turkish company did not hesitate to denounce “an unfavorable contextual environment”.
