In Germany, things have not been going well for the merged delivery services Getir and Gorillas for a long time. According to media reports, they are now withdrawing from the Federal Republic.
Almost a year and a half after the billion-dollar takeover of Gorillas, the food supplier Getir is withdrawing from Germany, according to media reports. Business in other European markets should also be stopped in mid-May, the “Wirtschaftswoche” wrote on Wednesday. In the future, the company will only concentrate on the Turkish home market. Getir declined to comment on the matter.
According to “Business Insider”, the company, which was temporarily valued at twelve billion dollars, is even facing a complete collapse. The major shareholder Mubadala has lost patience with the management because it has not yet come up with a viable business model. Among other things, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund is upset that Getir and Gorillas were not merged into one brand in Germany in order to save costs.
Food delivery services have boomed during the coronavirus pandemic. After that, demand fell significantly and triggered fierce competition. At the same time, companies were faced with rising prices and high personnel costs. In response, Getir cut 2,500 of its 23,000 jobs worldwide last summer. At times there was also speculation about a merger between Getir and its German rival Flink.
