– The sight of mothers with small children smiling with braces is no longer an unusual phenomenon, but I find that men also apply for treatment in good numbers, since the key to a successful performance is a confident smile – says Dr. Csaba Varga is an orthodontist who welcomes children and adults applying for treatment in Hódmezővásárhely, Kecskemét, and Szeged, at the Szent Gellert Medical Center. The young specialist has been dealing with orthodontics since 2015, during which time he gained serious professional experience; he also participated in the training of dentists and dental hygienists at the dental clinic.
You have to start early
It is worth taking a 7-8-year-old child to an orthodontist, as it is recommended to start treating certain changes already then. In the vast majority of cases, this is not yet the time for orthodontics, but preparation: for example, tongue-thrust swallowing and speech therapy problems must be treated in time. But there are times when the child receives removable braces. Early treatment pays off: later, the use of fixed braces will be justified for a shorter period of time.
It’s never too late
– As long as the patient has his own permanent dentition, orthodontic treatment is not difficult for adults either; the bridge, the crown, the inlay are not an obstacle, and even the implant can be included in the orthodontic process – said Dr. Csaba Varga emphasized that orthodontics is not only an aesthetic issue; it improves the functions of the denture and increases the healthy lifespan of the teeth, which can significantly improve the patient’s quality of life.
Orthodontics is sometimes combined with jawbone surgery: if the size and position of the jawbone is not appropriate, it prevents good contact between the teeth, and this can cause aesthetic, functional and psychological problems, and even snoring.
There is help
It is always a prerequisite for the treatment to bring the dentures to such a state that the use of the orthodontic device is smooth. Possible justified tartar removal, filling of a decayed tooth, and other necessary interventions are also possible in-house.
