DELMAGYAR – Civilians encourage blood donation

“The fact that donating blood saves lives is not a slogan, but a hard reality,” said our colleague Imre Szabó at the press conference announcing the 9th county civil blood donation week.

Our correspondent from Makó was asked to be the main patron of the program because he underwent a kidney transplant in Szeged a year ago. Before that, his kidneys stopped working due to a hereditary disease, and he was kept alive with dialysis treatment for 4 and a half years. Although the patient does not always need a blood transfusion for organ transplantation, this is what happened in his case.

– I am grateful not only to my doctors and my deceased donor, but also to the blood donors. I wouldn’t be here today without them, so please donate blood if you can he said.

This could also be done on Saturday in Korona in Makó. Ms. Norbert Szalai, the county employee of the county organization of the Hungarian Red Cross, said that in Csongrád-Csanád, five hundred blood donors are needed every week in order to be able to perform all planned and urgent surgeries. Men can donate blood five times a year, women four times. They can save the lives of three people at a time.

– Fortunately, there are more and more young blood donors, for many it is a family program he added.

We learned from Márta Varga, the group leader of the Csongrád-Csanád County Civil Community Service Center, that next week, i.e. during the September blood donation week, between September 16 and 20, volunteers can extend their arms 13 times in 7 locations in 5 county settlements.

– The Prime Minister’s Office announces civil blood donation week twice a year, in spring and autumn. The latter is important because fewer people donate blood during the summer holidays. Civilians are the ones who feel the importance of volunteering and social responsibility the most, and the easiest way to do this is by donating blood he emphasized.

During the last two civil blood donation weeks, the largest number of blood donations took place in our county.
