The police arrested a total of 174 border violators in the country on Monday, the National Police Headquarters announced on Tuesday. In the county of Csongrád-Csanád, 172 migrants were found in 8 groups in Ásotthalm, Mórahalm and Öttömös. The other two illegal immigrants were found in the county of Győr-Moson-Sopron.
Also on Monday, 126 people were prevented from crossing the border illegally on the Csongrád-Csanád county section of the border fence.
The arrested illegal migrants declared themselves to be Afghan, Syrian, Turkish and Tunisian citizens during the inspection, but they could not prove this with anything. The police escorted them back to the temporary security border checkpoint in accordance with the current Hungarian legislation.
The state television program Kékfény reported that the police officers at the border are constantly in danger and under enormous pressure, because in one night up to 7-800 migrants try to cross the fence illegally. It was reported that they received a briefing in the former transit zone near Röszke, where detained migrants were kept years ago, and now policemen and border guards rest in these containers between two services. The members of the film crew were also given bulletproof vests and helmets, which they needed, because during the filming they were thrown several times, shot at with slingshots, and heard machine gun shots.
