More than ten thousand people arrived in Hungary on Friday
On March 3, 2023, 5,358 people entered Hungary at the Ukrainian-Hungarian border between midnight and midnight. Among those who entered the Romanian-Hungarian border section, 5,407 people declared that they came from Ukraine.
Among those admitted, the police issued temporary residence certificates to 90 people, which are valid for 30 days. Within this period, they must visit the office of the National Directorate General of Immigration, which is competent for their place of residence, in order to obtain the final documents.
Before the war in Ukraine, on March 3, 2023, 66 people, including 20 children, arrived in Budapest by train.

Ukrainian General Staff: Russian forces seek to encircle Bahmut
Russian forces will not give up their efforts to completely encircle Bahmut in Donetsk County, the Ukrainian General Staff announced in its battlefield situation report on Friday evening.
According to the press release of the military leadership in Kyiv, the main attack directions of the Russian army, in addition to Bahmut, have been designated towards Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Liman, Avgyijivka and Shakhtarsk in the Donetsk region.
The General Staff added that Russian troops carried out 30 airstrikes and 6 missile strikes on Friday, as well as more than 20 attacks with multiple rocket launchers. Ukrainian forces carried out five strikes on concentrations of Russian personnel and military equipment, and shot down a Russian Su-34 aircraft and a ZALA drone.
Another US aid to Ukraine
The United States is providing another 400 million dollars (about HUF 140 billion) in military aid to Ukraine, which can be mobilized quickly, the US Department of Defense announced on Friday.
According to the official statement, the shipment contains, among other things, ammunition for high-mobility HIMARS and other missile artillery and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. In addition, the military package includes armored vehicles for river crossings, pontoon bridge carriers, and destructive ammunition.
The support also includes spare parts and tools for repairs, as well as training assistance for the Ukrainian military.
The American president held talks with the German chancellor at the White House
American President Joe Biden met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the White House in Washington on Friday afternoon, almost completely closed to the public.
It was announced beforehand that the main topic of the meeting will be the war in Ukraine.
What was made public about the meeting was that the American president thanked the chancellor for Germany’s comprehensive support to Ukraine and for the close cooperation with the United States and other allies in this regard. Joe Biden praised not only the military support, but also the German “moral” stand for Ukraine, which, according to the president, was not easy in Germany. The president praised the Berlin government’s decision to increase military spending.
In the short public part of the meeting, Olaf Scholz stated that they had to talk about a lot of things and called it important to jointly convey the message that the stand for Ukraine will continue, “last as long as necessary”.
Olaf Scholz traveled to the American capital on Thursday, and the Friday meeting with Joe Biden lasted for about an hour, mostly in the president’s study, and partly face to face. The German Chancellor paid an official visit to Washington at the beginning of February last year, barely two months after taking office and two weeks before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
At a press conference on Thursday, a high-ranking government official said in advance that the meeting will give the two politicians an opportunity to summarize their experiences with Ukraine, since both recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. It was also said that in the context of the war in Ukraine, China and the concerns caused by it may be discussed.
The official cited as an important signal that Olaf Scholz warned China in the German parliament on Thursday not to provide support to Russia for the war and called on Beijing to use its influence in order for Russia to withdraw from the territory of Ukraine.
According to the preliminary announcement, the meeting is also an opportunity for the German chancellor to raise European concerns regarding the so-called American inflation reduction law, which promises support for American businesses to encourage the transition to renewable energy and the green economy. According to the European point of view, this is an unacceptable protectionist measure.
One of Germany’s most significant military aid to Ukraine is the delivery of Leopard tanks, which it announced at the end of January, and which, according to the news, was conditional on the German side – based on a kind of symmetry – that the United States also oblige. The United States then announced that it would give Ukraine a battalion of Abrams tanks.
The German Chancellor’s visit on Friday will be followed a week later by Ursula von der Leyen’s trip. According to the White House’s statement on Friday, the German president of the European Commission will discuss further support for Ukraine and other elements of cooperation between the United States and the EU.
