On Friday, the audience can see the premiere of Olt Tamás’ Absinthe in Pinceszínház, directed by artistic director Bálint Varga. The performance was richly seasoned with songs. The director said that although the author had originally set the story with Parisian chansons, they were changed to American Christmas songs in the Szeged production. And the location was New York instead of the French capital.

The protagonist of the story is a writer who throws himself off the roof of a high-rise building. During the fall, more and more memories and possibilities emerge in his mind, the reality of the past is mixed with the “what if?” with his sometimes sweet, sometimes tormenting question in the intoxication of absinthe.
Basically, it’s not a sad story. The focus is on the visions you experience from floor to floor
– pointed out Orsolya Kancsár, the director of Pinceszínház, who plays the writer’s love interest in the performance. Bálint Varga added that the play’s subtitle is also a serene fall.
The main role is played by Attila Beszterczey, who said that the show is full of sitcoms and absurd humor. The writer’s mother will be brought to life by Beáta Büky. An important role in the story is played by a lazy and clumsy cat who is also the writer’s drinking buddy, the character is played by Csaba Gerner.

From time to time, the audience is drawn back to the real world by the life-affirming postman of Russian origin, played by Zoltán Nagyhegyesi in the performance.
The 12-year-old Imola Szabó was selected for the production at the casting, who had previously appeared in the Szeged Children’s Theater in the productions of Be Good Till Death and Nuns, as well as in the opera Bohémélet of the National Theater of Szeged.
