Béla Mihálffy asked the Minister of Regional Development in the parliament. The member of parliament told him that the county of Csongrád-Csanád, including Szeged, has nowadays become one of the dynamically developing regions of the country. Developments at the university have transformed the city into the leading knowledge center of the Southern Great Plain. However, according to the representative, the economic revitalizing effects of the investments started in Szeged can be felt mainly within the settlement, with little ripple effect in the city area and other settlements of the county. According to him, the development of the agglomeration would be an important step. He added: the city and its region are connected by a thousand threads, it is enough to think about the labor needs of businesses operating in the county seat or the recreational services of rural areas. However, so many people move out of the city that it causes serious challenges and puts a significant burden on the agglomeration settlements. He mentioned that the traffic on Dorozsmai út has increased so significantly in recent years that serious congestion regularly develops at the Szilva utca roundabout during peak hours. Finally, he asked Tibor Navracsics about the government’s plans for the region. The deputy minister answered the question. Csaba Latorcai said that special attention is paid to the coordinated territorial development of the regions. It is important that the development of public roads and bicycle paths between Szeged and its region, agglomeration, and the county seat also take place. The renovation of the already mentioned Dorozsmai út and the expansion of the Szilva utca roundabout were included in the regional development operational program, so its financing is possible. At the same time, he recalled that in his time, the section of Tisza Lajos körút between Dugonics tér and Boldogasszony úgárút, as well as the Felső Tisza-Part and the Mátyás Huszár wharf, were renewed. The development of the Kiskundorozsma transport hub can also be implemented with HUF 250 million support.
The deputy minister added: thanks to the government’s economic development efforts, the Szeged area will experience even more development in the future, even more outstanding than before, with the government’s implementation and support of extremely serious development projects.
