Demand for elections after necessary reforms

Leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and 12-party alliance have called upon the interim government to complete the necessary reforms including establishing law and order, prosecuting genocide, bringing back smuggled money, establishing rule of law and human rights and holding elections.

They made this call at a meeting held at the office of Jamaat-e-Islami in Moghbazar of the capital on Thursday (August 15). This meeting was organized to discuss the prevailing situation in the country. They emphasized on making unity stronger and stronger among themselves.

The leaders told the meeting that the interim government is continuing its activities to establish good governance in the country. The friends of fascism are continuing their efforts to destroy this peaceful environment of the country. So that miscreants cannot destroy this victory of the students’ movement, the people of the country must be vocal and all must play a united role to face any situation. The necessary reforms should be completed and elections should be arranged. We need to make our unity stronger and stronger. We are passing the time in a conspiracy.

Baith is said that it is necessary to establish a non-discrimination, communal harmony society to take the country to a place of stability and development after the historical revolution of the students. We want to build a country free from fascism. The officials of the erstwhile fascist government, the party armed terrorists who have carried out anarchic massacres in the country, must be immediately brought to justice and exemplary punishment. The rule of law and fundamental rights of all people must be ensured in every sector of the country. Officials who helped the misdeeds of the previous government should be removed and honest, efficient and professional officials should be appointed. The country’s economy should be strengthened by bringing back money smuggled abroad by looting fascists.

The meeting has also been asked to conduct a proper inquiry into those who have been killed in the student movement and bring the actual number before the nation and make arrangements to provide adequate compensation to the families of the victims.

Taher and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Executive Council Member and Central Publicity and Media Department Secretary Matiur Rahman Akand, Central Executive Council Member Abdur Rab and 12-party alliance head and Jatiya Party chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, 12-party alliance coordinator and Bangladesh National Party chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda, Jatiya Party secretary general and former MP Ahsan Habib Lincoln, Jamiat Ulamae Islam Bangladesh secretary general Maulana Mohiuddin Ikram, Alternative Bangladesh chairman Dr. Nurul Amin Bepari, Jatiya Gontantric Party (JAGPA) Vice-President and Spokesperson Rashed Pradhan, Bangladesh Labor Party (Part) Chairman Moin Mohammad Farooq, Bangladesh Kalyan Party Chairman Shamsuddin Parvez, Islami Oikya Jot Chairman Advocate Abdur Rakib and Secretary General Professor Abdul Karim, Islamic Party Secretary General Abul Kashem, PNP Chairman Feroze Mohammad Liton, New Democratic Party President Master MA Mannan, LDP Vice President Syed Mohammad Ibrahim Ronak, Bangladesh Welfare Party Secretary General Abu Hanif were present.

At the press briefing after the meeting, the Amir of Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that on August 5, the dictator who had been holding the neck of the nation for 15 and a half years has come to an end. This day is called the second independence day. Thanks to the youth for this. We got this second freedom at the cost of thousands of lives. We have discussed about the role of the 12-party alliance, including the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the scholarly society in the work of nation-building. Our discussion will continue. We believe that the unity of the people will be strong and together with the students we will face any conspiracy, Inshallah.

The head of the 12-party alliance and the chairman of the Jatiya Party, Mustafa Jamal Haider said, “At a turning point of the nation, we responded to the call of Jamaat-e-Islami and came to their office and exchanged views.” We have crossed a stage in the crisis prevailing in national life. But, many more problems remain. We discussed how we can move forward together in the coming days to tackle this crisis.
