Based on the proposal of the labor side, the Socialist Workers Front has demanded to amend the labor law and reduce the price of goods. Besides, ration for laborers, announcement of national minimum wage of Tk 20,000 and proper investigation and trial of domestic worker Preeti Udan’s death have been demanded.

The demand came from a rally organized in front of the National Press Club as part of the nationwide program announced by the organization on Friday (February 9).

Afzal Hossain, Vice President of Dhaka Metropolitan Branch, Monir Hossain Molin, Associate Editor, Tanvir Naeem, Habibur Rahman Habib, Shariful Islam Didar spoke in the gathering under the chairmanship of Khalekuzzaman Lipon, General Secretary of the organization’s Dhaka Metropolitan Branch. Engineer Shampa Basu, President of Samajtantrik Mahila Forum and Zakir Hossain, General Secretary of Charan Cultural Center spoke in solidarity.

The leaders in the rally said that the Labor Act-2006 has been amended repeatedly due to the demands of the workers and various foreign pressures, but the demands of the workers have always been ignored. Amendments and new amendments on labor laws contrary to ILO 87 and 98, definitions of workers, sections 20, 23 (d), (g), 26, 27, 180 of the Labor Law, contracting and outsourcing practices, lesser penalties and inadequate compensation for wrongful death
Offered. But the labor laws are being amended completely undemocratically by bypassing the tripartite consultative meeting or excluding its recommendations or the recommendations of the labor side.

They said that the people of the country, including the workers, are disoriented due to the price hike. But the government does not care about that. The demand for market control and army rate ration of workers is long standing. Currently there is no option to implement it. Abuse of workers in the workplace, especially domestic workers, is very similar to the slave era.
