Begum Roshan Ershad, chairman of a section of the Jatiya Party and former opposition party leader, has demanded that those who are wreaking havoc in the country in the name of quota reform movement should be tried under sedition law and given exemplary punishment.

Roshan Ershad made this claim while talking to reporters after visiting Setu Bhawan, Health Directorate Bhawan, Mirpur Metro Rail Station affected by violence on Saturday (July 27). Later, he visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Rajarbagh Police Line Hospital to see the victims of violence under treatment.

Roshan Ershad said, I have lost the language to condemn the destruction that armed terrorists have done. Those who have done so much damage to the country, should be tried under sedition law. No citizen of a country can harm his country’s wealth like this. Those who did, are enemies of the country.

He said, I could not believe seeing the pictures of destruction of our state assets through the media. So, today I came to see this devastation with my own eyes. I could not imagine that I would see this picture of the country at this age. It may be difficult for the government to recover this loss, but we cannot erase the wounds of our hearts.

The young student community of the country made some just demands. We also supported their demands. The students’ demands have been fulfilled by the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Violence erupted as conspirators infiltrated the peaceful movement of students. Many students lost their precious lives because of it. Besides, many civilians and law enforcement personnel also lost their lives. Many are struggling with death. This loss is irreparable. I demand justice for all murders. I pray for the forgiveness of the souls of those who have died.’

Ex-opposition leader Roshan Ershad demanded appropriate compensation for the families of the victims and proper treatment for the injured.

At that time, Jatiya Party (Roshan) Co-Chairman Shafiqul Islam Sentu and Sunil Shubo Roy, General Secretary Kazi Mamunur Rashid and other central leaders were present.
