The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, asked this Wednesday, accompanied by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to reduce tensions in the north of Kosovo and avoid any action that could “escalate” the conflict, while claiming the dialogue sponsored by the European Union as the only way out of it.
“We call on all parties to reduce tensions and to avoid any actions and rhetoric that could “escalate” (the conflict)“, said the secretary general of the Alliance in an unquestioned statement to the press before meeting with the Serbian leader.
Stoltenberg further noted that “the only way out” to the conflict between Serbia and Kosovo is the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which the Alliance “strongly supports.”
The Norwegian guaranteed that NATO carries out its mandate in northern Kosovo in an “impartial” way and explained that the organization has increased its presence with some 500 troops “in response to increased stresses and difficulties.”
