jpnn.comJAKARTA – Thousands of students are still holding out in the Pancasila Gate area, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (22/8) to demonstrate against the Regional Election Bill (RUU).

They were even involved in pushing and shoving with the police who had put up fences to prevent the masses from entering the Parliament Complex area.

Students also occasionally threw plastic bottles at the police when pushing and shoving occurred.

It is known that the police did put up a fence after students knocked down the entrance gate to the Parliament Complex from Jalan Gelora, Central Jakarta.

Police were seen pushing back students who were trying to break through the fence installed by the Bhayangkara Corps.

Several other police officers wearing helmets and shields were seen standing guard behind their colleagues guarding the fence.

Previously, a demonstrator asked the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, to meet students in front of the Pancasila Gate to have a dialogue about the Pilkada Bill.

“Call Baleg members, call Sufmi Dasco here,” said a protester, Thursday.
