In the Jeju primary to elect the next leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, candidate Lee Jae-myung won a landslide victory with over 80% of the votes.
This candidate came in first place in the first regional primary held in Jeju on the 20th, recording 82.50% of the votes from party members. Candidate Kim Du-kwan and candidate Kim Ji-soo came in second and third, respectively, with 15.01% and 2.49%.
In the Jeju primary for the Supreme Council, where a total of 8 candidates ran, the results were tallied in the following order: Jeong Bong-ju (19.06%), Jeon Hyeon-hee (15.78%), Kim Min-seok (13.18%), Kim Byeong-ju (13.08%), Han Jun-ho (12.09%), Lee Eun-ju (12.0%), Kang Seon-woo (7.81%), and Min Hyeong-bae (7.01%).
The Democratic Party’s election committee conducted an online vote for party members in the Jeju region for two days starting on the 19th.
The candidates are scheduled to hold the second round of primary elections in Incheon this afternoon.
The regional primary, which will be held 15 times in total, will end in Seoul on the 17th of next month. At the national convention on the 18th of next month, 14% of the delegate vote (online), 56% of the party member vote (online + ARS), and 30% of the public opinion poll will be combined to decide on one party representative and five supreme members.
