“Promise to propose Han Dong-hoon special prosecutor law… Expecting discussions to begin in some form”
Democratic leadership holds emergency economic review meeting tomorrow, including T-money and stock market crash
The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 6th regarding the plan to reintroduce the ‘Special Prosecutor’s Act on Chae Hae-byung’, which was ultimately scrapped by President Yoon Seok-yeol’s exercise of his veto (right to request reconsideration), that “the Special Prosecutor’s Act has completed its own review and will soon be reintroduced.”
Yoon Jong-gun, the floor spokesperson, met with reporters after a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly building this morning and said, “As promised by People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, I hope that (the People Power Party) will introduce a special prosecutor’s bill in some form and begin discussions.”
Spokesperson Yoon also said, “The Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Act has also been submitted to the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee’s bill subcommittee, so I think it will be discussed in earnest.”
He said, “In the end, it seems like the problem is President Yoon Seok-yeol,” and pointed out, “It is regrettable that the National Assembly’s livelihood legislation has repeatedly been thwarted by a president who consistently uses his veto power.”
He continued, “Ahead of the September regular session, which can be called the main election of the National Assembly, the ruling and opposition parties have entered a phase of reorganizing their ranks and taking a breather,” and “I think it is time for the Democratic Party to think deeply about what to prioritize in the area of livelihood, and since the leadership of both parties has been newly launched, to provide the people with at least minimal livelihood-related results.”
The Democratic Party leadership decided to hold a meeting on measures related to the economic crisis, including the delayed settlement of Timon and WeMakePrice, on the 7th.
Spokesperson Yoon explained, “The Supreme Council decided to hold an emergency economic review meeting in relation to various issues, including the recent stock market crash and the WeMakePrice incident.”
The head of the Timon-WeMakePrice crisis response team will be re-elected lawmaker Jeon Jun-ho, and the secretaries will be first-term lawmakers Kim Nam-geun and Song Jae-bong.
