Jeddah: The emirate of the Mecca region has announced that it will provide various housing services, including accommodation, at government expense to those who have lost their homes following the demolition of buildings in the Jeddah municipality as part of slum clearance and urban development. More than 68,000 services will be provided to residents in areas where buildings have been removed. One of the most important of these is setting up homes for the uninitiated. The Mecca Region Emirate explained that various housing units will be set up by the end of this year and will be provided to families who have lost their homes. The three categories of people who lose their accommodation are considered in this way. The first category is security families living in slums. More than 550 families whose houses were destroyed have been relocated so far.

4,781 housing units will be fully operational by the end of this year. The second category is homeowners with documents living in demolished slums. The government will provide rental accommodation for them until they receive compensation. The third category is citizens living in slums who are not beneficiaries of insurance and do not have documents. Their case will be studied and they will be relocated in collaboration with charities. About 50,000 buildings in 138 areas are being demolished as part of urban development. Of these, 11,000 buildings have already been demolished in 13 areas, officials said.

With the widespread demolition of buildings in various parts of the country, many people, including Malayalees, have lost their homes and businesses and are wandering in search of safer places. As the demand increases, many do not get rooms. The owners of the existing buildings increased the rent by taking advantage of the opportunities.
