Demonstration of officers and employees in Islami Bank the economy

Banks have opened today along with courts in the country. At around 11:30 am after the opening of the bank, the de-promoted officers-employees marched and protested at the Islami Bank head office. This caused tension in Dilkusha area. The protesters also reportedly beat up some bank officials.

While talking to Islami Bank officials, they said that there is tension in most branches of Islami Bank. The tension arose from the arguments between S Alam Group and Jamaat-backed officials. A party also protested against S. Alam at the head office of Islami Bank.

A senior official of the bank, who did not want to be named, said that the junior staff of the bank are protesting. Earlier peons had the opportunity to become officers in Islami banks. The promotion of peons in the bank was stopped till now after it came under the control of S Alam Group. Due to this, the angry employees are marching and raising slogans.

It is reported that the two DMDs known as ‘special people’ of S Alam Group in Islami Bank did not come to office today. Another DMD of the bank, Rezaur Rahman, was beaten up by the people of IBBL. The aggrieved have removed the nameplates of the offices of several senior officials including DMD Miftah Uddin. Apart from this, 4-5 persons who were promoted in ‘special capacity’ of S Alam were also beaten up by the officers-employees of the bank.

Note that Islami Bank established as a first generation private bank in 1983 is the first Islamic bank in South Asia. Foreigners provided 70 percent capital of this private bank during its establishment.
