## Hundreds of Awami League Workers Protest in Support of Sheikh Hasina
(24News) Hundreds of Awami League workers protested in support of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Gopalganj and Barguna, two cities in Bangladesh, demanding that their party leader be brought back to the country.
During the protest demonstration, supporters of Sheikh Hasina were carrying sticks, hockey sticks, and sharp tools. Gopalganj is Sheikh Hasina’s native place. She had resigned as Prime Minister and left for India, and the protestors alleged that she was forced to leave the country due to a conspiracy.
Foreign media reported that Awami League workers also set fire to a vehicle belonging to the Bangladeshi army during the demonstration. Several people were injured in the incident. The General Secretary of Awami League in Gopalganj, Shahabuddin Azam, stated that the protests would continue until Sheikh Hasina was returned to the country with dignity.
In Barguna, around 350 Awami League workers also held a protest march. The local leader of Awami League, Jahangir Kabir, declared that the party would not remain inactive and emphasized that its strength lies in its people, not its military. Other local leaders echoed this sentiment, claiming that Sheikh Hasina had not fled the country but was forced to remain outside due to the political situation.
