Journalist Marina Obsyanikova, who broke into the live broadcast of Russia’s most-watched news program yesterday to condemn the war in Ukraine and was fined 30,000 rubles (about $ 280), told the court about her difficult experience after being arrested last night.

Obsyanikova said on leaving the court: “It was a very difficult day. I was interrogated non-stop for 14 hours. I was not allowed to contact my family or lawyers. Let me rest please.”

As mentioned, the court in Russia imposed a fine of 30,000 rubles on her after finding her guilty of “organizing an illegal protest,” the Russian media reported. Earlier today, a picture of Obsyanikova was posted on social media for the first time since she was arrested last night. In the photo, she is seen smiling next to her lawyer Anton Gashinsky in court, where proceedings have begun against her for “organizing a public event without a permit.”

Obsyanikova, as I recall, waved a sign with the words “Stop the war! Do not believe the propaganda” as she exclaimed aloud: “Stop the war! Not for the war!”. Obsyanikova worked as an editor for Channel One, which aired the edition to which she had erupted. The channel forwarded the broadcast for reporting a few seconds after it appeared on screen. The editor’s outburst managed to disturb quite a few viewers and other employees on Channel One.
