At an appointment in Brandenburg, demonstrators harass a Green Party politician. They prevent her car from leaving.

Demonstrators harassed the car of Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt (Greens) and prevented it from leaving. The “Bild” newspaper (online) reported the incident after a party event in Lunow-Stolzenhagen in the Oderbruch in Brandenburg, citing Göring-Eckardt’s office. There was a counter-demonstration and attempts to disrupt the event last Saturday. An estimated 40 to 50 demonstrators had gathered in front of the event hall, her office told the newspaper.

On the way back to her vehicle, the Bundestag Vice President was harassed. The car with Göring-Eckardt and her driver was then prevented from leaving. “Several people hit the vehicle in an aggressive mood,” the office continued. It was only when the police called for reinforcements that the departure was made possible after 45 minutes.

Complaint against two young men

The Frankfurt (Oder) police department reported the incident, but only spoke of a Green member of the Bundestag without mentioning her name. Accordingly, a report of coercion was filed against two 19 and 26 year old men in Lunow-Stolzenhagen. They sat in front of or behind the company car and prevented it from leaving. According to the newspaper, the public prosecutor’s office is investigating her. She could not be reached to answer questions on Wednesday evening.

Göring-Eckardt’s office told the newspaper: “Protest is legitimate, threats and intimidation are not.” It cannot be the case that democracy events should be prevented. “It must be possible to talk about democracy everywhere – even in the countryside, whether in Biberach in Baden-Württemberg or in a village in Brandenburg.”
