Demonstrators waved PLO flags at a demonstration in Haifa and were detained for questioning

Five protesters were detained today (Friday) at a demonstration on Ben Gurion Avenue in Haifa after they waved PLO flags and refused the request of the police to take down the flags. The detained protesters are a 31-year-old resident of Barkan, a 22-year-old resident of Bena and Haifa residents aged 69, 51 and 27. Another protester, a 26-year-old resident of Deboriya, was arrested for assaulting a policeman during the demonstration.

The police stated that it was explained to the demonstrators that waving PLO flags at the site could lead to a violation of public peace. After the flags were not taken down, the commander of the force ordered to detain those involved as mentioned above for failing the police and violating public order. The suspects were brought in for questioning at the police station in Haifa, and in accordance with the findings of the investigation The police will consider whether to ask to extend their detention at the Haifa Magistrate’s Court.
