Denatality in China: green light for the third child and the retirement age is raised

To combat the demographic decline, the Chinese government intends to authorize families to have three childreni, exceeding the limit of two which came into effect in 2015.

From 1979 to 2015 there was instead the limit of only one child per couple, a rule introduced for a more equitable distribution of national wealth.

The turning point on the third child was anticipated by the news agency Xinhua, very well informed, being owned by the Government.

The decision follows the 2020 census by three weeks, which shows that population growth has plummeted to 5.38%, the lowest rate since the 1960s.

As a result of the decline in births, the population is aging: the percentage of Over 65s in the last ten years has risen from 8.87% to the current 13.5%.

For the same reasons, China is re-discussing theretirement age, which is currently set at 60 for men and 55 for women
