Dengue fever epidemic reduced death, according to the Ministry of Public Health. The ministry pointed to the use of ibuprofen as an example of factors contributing to abnormal platelet count in dengue fever patients. In a recent statement, Dr. Opas Kankawinpong, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, revealed that there are currently over 40,000 dengue fever patients in Thailand, with over 40 deaths reported. Surprisingly, it was found that about 10% of those who died were taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen. These medications can cause abnormal platelet function, increasing the risk of bleeding and potentially leading to shock and death.

Dr. Opas advised the public to be cautious and avoid taking NSAID drugs if experiencing symptoms of dengue fever, such as fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. These symptoms can be difficult to distinguish from other diseases like influenza or leptospirosis, so it is crucial to seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Moreover, Dr. Opas emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the dengue fever epidemic and other diseases. If an area is experiencing a large outbreak and lacks the necessary resources to cope, such as budget, medicine, or personnel, the matter can be escalated to the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control. Through the mechanism of the Academic Committee, announcements can be made at various levels, from villages to provinces, to strengthen disease control measures. The provincial governor is also granted the ability to use the budget allocated under the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act, as an epidemic in humans is considered a form of disaster.

The Ministry of Public Health urges the public to remain vigilant, take preventive measures, and seek medical help if symptoms of dengue fever are present. By staying informed and cautious, individuals can help reduce the impact of the ongoing dengue fever epidemic.]
