Dengue Fever Outbreak Continues in Thailand with Sa Kaeo Province Among Affected Areas

Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand – The dengue fever situation in Thailand remains alarming as the number of reported cases continues to rise. According to Dr. Tharapong Kapko, the Public Health Doctor of Sa Kaeo Province, the country has recorded a total of 91,979 cases of dengue fever and witnessed 84 deaths. The death rate stands at 0.09 per 100,000 population.

The alarming figures highlight the severity of the outbreak, with certain provinces experiencing higher infection rates than others. Trat, Nan, Chanthaburi, Chiang Rai, and Rayong are among the top five provinces with the highest infection rates, alongside Sa Kaeo Province.

Sa Kaeo Province, ranked 38th in Thailand, has reported 737 cases of dengue fever so far this year, with an illness rate of 130.95 per 100,000 population. Sadly, one death has been reported in the province, with a death rate of 0.13 per 100,000 population. Most of the cases in Sa Kaeo Province involve male patients, with a male to female ratio of 1.13:1.

Further analysis shows that the Aranyaprathet District in Sa Kaeo Province has the highest rate of sickness, with 234.10 cases per 100,000 population. This is followed by Khlong Hat District, Watthana Nakhon District, Mueang Sa Kaeo District, Wang Nam Yen District, Wang Somboon District, Khao Chakan District, Ta Phraya District, and Khok Sung District.

In response to the outbreak, the Public Health Office has established medical and public health emergency operations centers at the provincial and district levels in seven districts. This includes the Aranyaprathet District, Mueang Sa Kaeo District, Ta Phraya District, Watthana Nakhon District, Wang Sombun District, Khlong Hat District, and Khao Chakan District.

Sa Kaeo Province has witnessed heavy rainfall recently, leading to stagnant water in various containers. This serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, including Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue fever. In light of this, Dr. Tharapong Kapko urges the public to take preventive measures to eliminate these breeding grounds.

The three essential measures to prevent dengue fever suggested by health officials are:

1. Keep the house clean to prevent mosquitoes from finding resting spots.
2. Dispose of garbage properly in the home and community to avoid creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
3. Keep water storage containers sealed and regularly check for mosquito larvae. Clean the containers thoroughly and add sand to eliminate mosquito larvae.

Additionally, individuals are advised to apply mosquito repellent, sleep under mosquito nets, or reside in rooms with mosquito screens to further protect themselves from dengue fever, Zika virus disease, and joint pain caused by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

To ensure the safety of family members and seek assistance, individuals are encouraged to reach out to government agencies and local government organizations for help.

As the outbreak continues to affect various parts of Thailand, it is crucial for communities to come together, follow precautionary measures, and prioritize public health to combat dengue fever effectively.]
