The Worst Dengue Outbreak In 5 Years Hits Thailand

As cases of Dengue fever continue to rise, health officials in Thailand are taking action to combat the worst outbreak in 5 years. The Department of Disease Control of the Ministry of Public Health in Bangkok, in collaboration with Takeda Thailand and the Dengue-zero cooperation partner, has organized an event at the Central Court zone, 1st floor, Central World Shopping Center. The event, titled “Forwarding Hope from Ingma, inviting Thai people to pin down and stop dengue fever,” aims to raise awareness and provide new hope in the fight against Dengue fever.

Measures to combat the outbreak include monitoring and controlling the number of Aedes mosquito larvae, the primary vector for Dengue fever, and immunization through vaccination. The event will also feature medical experts specializing in infectious diseases sharing knowledge on the discussion stage, with the goal of “forwarding new hope to protect Thai society from dengue fever.”

According to Prof. Dr. Chisanu Pancharoen, a Pediatrician at Chulalongkorn Hospital, recognizing the symptoms of Dengue fever is critical. Symptoms include high fever, gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and vomiting, and non-skin bleeding, which can be dangerous signals of severe Dengue fever.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Sasisophin Kiattiburanakul, head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Ramathibodi Hospital, highlighted the increased risk of severe Dengue fever for adults with underlying health conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or heart disease. These risk factors can complicate the treatment of Dengue fever, making it more difficult to manage.

Dengue fever is caused by infection with the Dengue virus, which has up to 4 different strains. Individuals who have previously been infected are at a higher risk of contracting the virus again. To combat the spread of Dengue fever, people are advised to follow disease control measures, such as tightly closing water storage containers and regularly changing the water to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

In addition, strengthening the immune system through vaccination is crucial in reducing the severity of the disease and preventing hospital stays. It is also recommended to consult a doctor or hospital for advice on Dengue vaccination.

As efforts continue to control the Dengue fever outbreak in Thailand, it is vital for the public to stay informed, take preventive measures, and seek medical attention if Dengue fever symptoms are observed. With the collective effort of the government, healthcare professionals, and the public, the hope is that the situation will be brought under control in the near future.]
