Denial of permission to Scheduled Tribes to enter Ram Temple – What is happening in Madhya Pradesh?

“We don’t have any temple. This is their temple. If we have to go there for some time, we will come after bowing Sami from outside. They will not allow recitation. They are not allowed to enter the temple. They observe untouchability. That is why we built separate temples.

No priest will be available to perform the puja. They don’t even come to our homes. When elections come, they call us brothers. They come home and sit cross-legged. Once the elections are over, Dalits will say they should have left.”

So say the Scheduled Caste people of Kheri village, 70 km from Madhya Pradesh’s Sihore city. There are 150 houses in this village. All these people have to visit their family deity from outside the temple.

Speaking about this, Resham Bhai from Gari village said, “They will not let us inside the Ram temple. They won’t let you climb the stairs. They will not even allow you to enter the temple. A coconut is placed in the temple of Ram when men get married. Our sons are denied permission to do this,” he said.

This is not just a matter of Gari village. It is a daily matter for Scheduled Caste people living in the rural areas of Sehore district.

They are not allowed to enter the temple. They say they don’t even have priests of their own. Thus they have built their own temple.

On March 19, the oppressed people of nearby Muskara village appealed to the district collector’s office saying they were not allowed to draw water from the public tap.

However, the District Collector of Sihore says that there is no caste discrimination behind the Muskara issue.

Talking about this, District Collector Praveen Singh said, “Some women from Muskara village came and they submitted a petition to our Deputy Collector regarding the water problem in the village. We went there and saw it. There were some problems.

There are 9 bore wells in the village. 7 of them have been repaired and are operational. And 1,500 meters of pipe is needed to fill their tank with water. There are no problems like caste discrimination and untouchability. I don’t know what the problem is in other villages.

Now you and the media have informed me about this matter. We will inquire what is the matter, send a team and take appropriate action. Action will be taken based on what comes out in the investigation,” he said.
